Music as Communication

Music is communication. The desire to create meaningful art and connect with others is at the heart of every artist. To communicate effectively, one must become the source of the music—through imagination. This not only brings music to life but also helps us discover what we want to express.

Learning How to Learn

While technical execution is essential, learning how to learn—quickly, efficiently, and thoughtfully—is one of my core teaching priorities. I emphasize a natural, healthy understanding of movement and encourage students to explore repertoire that ignites their imagination. True artistry lies in the balance between honoring stylistic differences and cultivating a distinct artistic voice. In the academic context, it is crucial to understand how musicological insights inform our repertoire, how theoretical concepts translate into practice, and how we can appreciate both structural and detailed perspectives within a work.

Beyond Mechanics: A Search for Truth

Music is more than mechanics and intellect—it’s a search for truth in sound and expression. Each student is unique, with their own physicality and approach. I help them develop a strong technical foundation that allows for true artistic freedom. My goal is to:

  • Nurture students’ abilities while instilling confidence
  • Encourage exploration beyond their comfort zones
  • Guide them toward discovering their own artistic voice

Music & Community

Art does not exist in isolation. Every musician has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to their community. Understanding both the past and present allows students to honor tradition while engaging with the evolving world around them. I seek to inspire:

  • Cultural curiosity
  • Appreciation for all arts
  • A broadened perspective beyond the piano

Passing It Forward

Music has profoundly shaped my life, thanks to the generosity of my teachers. They taught me to believe in myself and to set expectations that challenge and inspire. Their encouragement became the foundation I stand on today, and I strive to pass those same values on to my students.
